Lunch & Learns
Lunch and Learns are offered bi-monthly through the Training & Development function of the human resources (HR) organization. The topics provide employees with business knowledge within our family of companies (finance, strategic planning, etc.) and interpersonal skills that improve operational performance. Eight hybrid Lunch and Learn events were hosted in 2024. The total attendance was 1,038, averaging 130 in-person/virtual attendees per event.
260E Program
The Iowa Industrial New Jobs Training (260E) program provides businesses who are expanding their Iowa workforce with funding designated for training associated with those newly created positions. It is designed to lower the cost of expanding and training a workforce by providing funds for training in their primary scope of work. WSC committed to adding 53
new positions over a three-year timespan, closing in June 2025.
Onboarding & Orientation
The Training & Development team facilitates an orientation session for all new employees in the corporate office. The education includes learning about each company within our family, including the history, company structure, various policies, WSCU, benefits, resources and more. All new employees receive four hours of orientation and online training to introduce
them to the company, before moving to department specific training.
New employees are welcomed with some WSC branded swag that includes a coaster, mug, notebook and pen.
59 new WSC employees attended orientation in 2024 in 27 orientation sessions. This amounted to 36 total hours of orientation for both full-time and contract employees.
In WSCU, new WSC employees completed over 128 hours of onboarding training, which includes company education and customer service training.

True Colors
True Colors® is a personality assessment used to boost interdepartmental and team dynamics/understanding. Each employee completes a survey inside employee onboarding and is provided their results that include their strengths, weaknesses, and strategies for communicating with people of different personalities. This improves employee self-awareness and conflict
resolution. Three employees at WSC are certified True Colors practitioners and can provide department workshops to teams who request it.

Individual Development
The Training and Development department offers the WSC family of companies numerous individual development options. These can
include team workshops, individual coaching, and mentoring depending on the need.
Women of Wright
The Women of Wright program began in 2022 to increase hiring and retaining a diverse workforce by empowering, developing, and supporting employees at all levels to reach their fullest potential and equip them with the tools to excel as leaders in our industry.
The program consists of a two-day workshop at the corporate office in West Des Moines, Iowa. Women in our family of companies are nominated by leaders or colleagues to participate. Those who were not selected for the workshop in a previous year can be nominated in the future.
The workshop focuses around three main themes: connect, educate, and empower. Each theme incorporated learning opportunities, exchange of ideas, and application of new skills. Women leave the workshop with tools to continue developing themselves personally and professionally.
- LARGEST PARTICIPATION TO DATE: The 2024 workshop welcomed 24 participants, the largest group since the program’s inception in 2022.
- RECORD NUMBER OF NOMINATIONS: Achieved the highest number of nominations to date, with 107 employees across the family of companies nominated for the program.
- OVERALL POSITIVE EXPERIENCE: Sessions received strong approval from participants, reflecting the program’s success in delivering valuable and engaging content. The program effectively engaged participants by integrating interactive sessions, such as the Role Play Activity, Speed Networking, and Office Tour, with educational opportunities, including speaker-led presentations and the Effective Communication Panel. The Panel and the True Colors Personalities Workshop stood out as participant favorites.
