Incident Rate and Reduction

Incident Rate and Reduction

ASTM E-2920 Recording Occupational Injuries and Illnesses provides an accurate, objective framework which establishes a basis for meaningful comparison of injury and illness rates. By recording cases that have a clear connection to the workplace, we are able to focus prevention measures where there is a potential for life threatening, life altering, or medical intervention outcomes – metrics that the Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) are unable to highlight. Both high and low severity outcomes (fatality, poison ivy) are included in TRIR calculations, which is an inaccurate reflection of safety performance or validation for resource allocation.

The ASTM Incident Rate is calculated using only Level One (high consequence) incident and illness data and the resulting rate should not be associated with TRIR for comparison. The average 2024 ASTM Incident Rate for WSC is 0.00.
